MOTHER TERESA 5K BRINGS COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO SUPPORT GROWING CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Posted 5th March 2008, mid-afternoon

West Chester, OH—On April 19, 2008 at 9:00 a.m., Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School (MTCES) will host the Mother Teresa 5K, a run/walk taking place at Voice of America Park. MTCES has planned the event, sponsored by Aspen, to bring the West Chester and Liberty Township communities together to raise school awareness and funds in support of school expansion.

The Mother Teresa 5K, managed by Prescott Race Coordination (www.sprunning.com), will offer adults and children of all ages and fitness levels an opportunity to join in a united effort to increase awareness of MTCES, one of only three independent, private Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Participant support also generates funds for school building expansion in order to accommodate rapid enrollment growth. 5K Chairperson and school parent, Madison Rye, looks forward to raising funds for the school and hopes “to see increased interaction with the community while promoting good health through exercise.”

MTCES, which opened in 1998 to 20 kindergartners in the basement of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Monroe, now serves over 380 students in grades K-8 on its 25-acre campus in Liberty Township.

Pre-registration for the 5K is $20 ($15 for those under 18), and includes a t-shirt and refreshments. To register, contact MTCES or visit sprunning.com. Registration on race day is $25 ($20 for those under 18). There are a variety of age divisions, and participants can choose to run or walk the race route. The school will award the top male and female finishers and the top finishers in each division.

MTCES has the following mission: “MTCES was established in the spirit of Mother Teresa to nurture the growth of every student—spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. We treat all as Mother Teresa did, as individuals, with respect and dignity. We nurture the spiritual formation of the children by encouraging them to become one with God. We strengthen their sense of family and enrich their community experience. Our focus is academic excellence and a commitment to serve while instilling the formal teachings of the Catholic faith and building values that will last a lifetime.”
