Quarterly Tax Payments Due

Posted 12th January 2007, mid-afternoon

Changes mandated by revised state laws in 2004 mean City of Mason income tax
payers will need to take a closer look at their January 2007 tax payment to
the city. As a result of the changes, 90% of your 2006 tax liability must
be paid by January 31 to avoid a penalty and/or interest charge. In previous
years, only 70% of the tax liability was due by the end of January.

Residents had the option to estimate their 2006 taxes on their 2005 form and
to calculate how much would be due each quarter to meet the 90% requirement.
Reminder notices were sent by the city each quarter for those who filled out
the estimate.

If you have not been making quarterly payments or if your income is higher
than your original estimate, please review your payment history and submit
any outstanding amounts on or before the January 31 deadline. Mason
residents who are not sure whether they have met the 90% requirement can
contact the Mason Tax Office at 513-229-8535 for assistance.

2006 City of Mason income tax returns will be mailed to taxpayers by the end
of January 2007. If you do not receive one, you may check the city's
website, www.imaginemason.org, for a copy or contact the tax office at
513-229-8535 to have one mailed to you.

Tax returns are due on or before April 16. When sending your return to the
tax office, please include your W-2's, a copy of page one of your Federal
Form 1040, and all applicable schedules.

Beginning February 15, 2007, Mason residents can use the city's online tax
tool to calculate their taxes. The tool will prompt you to enter your income
information and will then calculate the correct tax due. You can also view
all payments applied to your account prior to February 15. Find this online
tool at www.imaginemason.org after February 15.

Regular business hours for the tax office are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday
through Friday. The tax office will be open until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April
11, and Monday, April 16. It will also be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 14.

The tax office will prepare your City of Mason income tax return free
of charge. Just bring all supporting documentation to the customer service
counter in the Mason Municipal Center.
